Protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have escalated, with reports indicating that Pakistani forces opened fire on demonstrators in Muzaffarabad and surrounding areas. Since the protests began on September 29, over six individuals have lost their lives, according to sources. Videos circulating online show Pakistani Rangers attempting to control the unrest, using tear gas against the crowds.

In response to the growing demonstrations, authorities have shut down mobile, internet, and landline services, isolating residents and increasing anxiety among local communities. Protesters faced severe restrictions, including sealed roads and halted communications, as they attempted to march towards Muzaffarabad. In Dudyal, Mirpur, the Action Committee has refused to bury a protester until their demands are addressed, while security forces have blocked bridges to prevent the march.

The Joint Awami Action Committee has organized large rallies in Mirpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad, reflecting a rising unity and frustration over the government's inaction. Initially sparked by demands for a regular supply of flour and electricity, the protests have expanded to include a 38-point charter of demands. Key issues include abolishing reserved assembly seats, reducing elite privileges, completing road construction projects, providing tax relief, and ensuring free education and healthcare.

Hundreds gathered at Muzaffarabad’s Lal Chowk, where leaders like Shaukat Nawaz Mir addressed the crowd, urging the government to act on their longstanding demands. Mahmood Kashmiri, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Alliance, accused Pakistan of militarizing the region, claiming that troops are stationed at key entry points and weapons are being distributed to civilians. He warned that such actions could escalate tensions and threaten peaceful resistance. Kashmiri issued a strong ultimatum to Islamabad, demanding the withdrawal of troops from PoK and an immediate halt to plans that threaten peaceful citizens. "We will not tolerate any form of hooliganism or mischief here under any circumstances," he stated.
