The White House has announced that layoffs of federal workers could occur imminently due to the ongoing government shutdown , affecting pay and services for many Americans.
“Let’s be honest, if this thing drags on for another few days or, God forbid, another few weeks, we are going to have to lay people off,” Vice President JD Vance said during a visit to the White House briefing room.
Those who remain employed, whether in Washington, D.C., or elsewhere, will not receive pay during the shutdown. Even individuals not employed by the government may experience disruptions to their benefits, loans, and groceries.
