ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
A major indoor sports facility is now coming to Albuquerque's Westside.
The city of Albuquerque has now finalized a $7.7 million deal for nearly 13 acres of undeveloped land to be used.
The facility, which was pitched over a decade ago by late city councilor, Ken Sanchez, will be named in his honor. It will be located on Albuquerque's Westside in between Coors Boulevard and St. Joseph's Drive.
Phase one of the project will include space for 8 full sized basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, and will also have the capacity to house other indoor sports such as wrestling, cheerleading, dance, indoor soccer and other activities.
City leaders say it's a long overdue investment in youth community and economic growth.
