A former branch president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 228 has been charged after union funds were allegedly misappropriated.
In a news release issued Wednesday, Peel Regional Police said OPSEU Local 228 investigated the matter internally before contacting cops with evidence that led to the criminal investigation.
“Allegations indicate that the total amount of misappropriated funds exceed $100,000,” Peel police said in the news release.
On Sept. 19, investigators arrested Mark Babcook, 41, of Toronto, and charged him with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
He was released with conditions.
