MADISON, Wis — Law enforcement officials announced on Wednesday that criminal charges have been referred to the Dane County District Attorney's Office for the man accused of crashing into a Madison police officer's squad car Saturday afternoon, seriously injuring the officer.

According to law officials, 36-year-old Christopher Brugger was driving a flatbed tow truck when he allegedly led multiple police agencies on a pursuit that ended in McFarland. Brugger hit Officer Ryan Kimberly's squad car, seriously injuring him. Kimberly's partner, K9 Freddie, sustained minor injuries.

Citizens reported seeing the tow truck driving erratically, prompting Monona police to contact Brugger at a gas station on Broadway Street.
