BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - A historic carousel is getting a much-needed makeover thanks to the City of Binghamton.
Mayor Jared Kraham held a news conference today to discuss the ongoing construction on the carousel at Ross Park Zoo.
Kraham says the carousel was a victim of harsh weather conditions and did not have proper shelter, ultimately damaging the horses.
The City received a state grant of $500,000 to rehabilitate the horses and build a new carousel enclosure. The total cost of the project is $2.1 million, with the remaining costs being covered by local donations.
The carousel is also moving from the entrance to the pavilion because it is currently in a flood plain.
Kraham says investing in the Ross Park Zoo is essential.
