CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Chicopee for a new development project aimed at addressing the state's housing crisis by constructing an 8-story residential building with 105 low-income units.

The project, located on a long-vacant piece of land in Chicopee, is expected to be completed by June 2027, with residents moving in by August 2027. The development is a significant step towards alleviating the housing shortage in the area.

"I'm a graduate of UMass Amherst, so this is very, very special to me," said Hammad Graham, managing member of BD Singing Bridge LLC, the developer group involved in the project.
