WINTER PARK, Fla. – The annual holiday event on Park Avenue in Winter Park has been renamed “Christmas on Park” this year, replacing the city’s old name “Holidays on Park.” The change was made by a private group called the Park Avenue District, which now runs the event.
The new name has sparked some disagreement. On Monday, the executive director and three board members of the Park Avenue District stepped down. Alan Chambers, the group’s president, said the resignations were not about the name change.
He said, “It’s hard to be a small business owner and serve on a board.”
Chambers said the group’s goal was to focus on Christmas decorations, while the city still handles menorah and Kwanzaa celebrations.
