The federal government entered its second day of a shutdown on Wednesday, with hundreds of thousands of employees estimated to be furloughed, according to agency contingency plans. Advertisement

The Get The Facts Data Team reviewed the contingency plans for 15 cabinet agencies plus several other agencies and sub-agencies to find out how many employees were estimated to be furloughed.

Across the 15 cabinet departments, the data team found nearly 566,000 were estimated to be furloughed. The Congressional Budget Office estimated around 750,000 federal employees could be furloughed.

As of March this year, there were around 2.2 million federal employees .
