NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — As Halloween approaches, it's important to keep an eye out for the critters who can't exactly trick or treat. The first step? Staying mindful of the decorations posted up in one's yard.

"Birds getting snagged in those artificial spiderwebs, that's definitely an issue," said New Mexico Game and Fish Communications Director Darren Vaughan. "Those spiderwebs or anything that's mesh or netting or anything like that, if they get caught in that, it can do damage to their feathers or they can get their feet snagged in it. And if it does damage to their feathers, they're going to have issues when it comes to trying to fly afterwards."
