The number of vehicle collisions that result in injuries has dropped steadily in Kelowna in recent years.
In 2019, there were 11.5 injury collisions for every 1,000 residents. After several straight years of declines, the rate is now 8.1 injury collisions for every 1,000 residents.
That is below ICBC’s target rate of 8.7 for for the province.
The decline in Kelowna is said in a report going to council on Monday to be due in part to a number of road and traffic safety improvements undertaken in recent years.
Upgrades include such things as more crosswalk lights, the building of more sidewalks, an expanded network of protected bike lanes, and traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and traffic circles.
Perhaps not surprisingly, pedestrians and cyclists are over-represented in injur
