Governor Josh Shapiro on Wednesday signed an executive order creating a state program that will provide free vaccines to 1.5 million Pennsylvanian children.

The order, which also references declining vaccination rates and touts Pennsylvania as a manufacturing hub for vaccines in the U.S., is the latest step the governor has taken in recent weeks to sidestep what many have characterized as troubling and confusing guidance at the federal level.

The governor touted the order as another precautionary measure to protect Pennsylvanians’ right to make the best health decisions for themselves and their children.
