BELLEVUE, Neb. (WOWT) - The federal government shutdown is creating uncertainty for thousands of families tied to Offutt Air Force Base.

Officials at Offutt say about 2,300 civilian employees are being furloughed, while roughly 1,200 contractors remain on the job.

Active-duty service members continue to carry out missions, but base leaders acknowledge that the uncertainty over delayed paychecks is putting stress on military families.

“To be honest with you, it’s a lot of uncertainty,” said Kris Pierce with Offutt Air Force Base.
