WASHINGTON — The Smithsonian Museums and National Zoo have enough money right now to remain open at least through Monday. But some other national monuments in the District are completely or partially closed, which puts a damper on plans for some visiting D.C.

Andrea Ingram is one of them. She and her husband are from Texas and visiting D.C. to celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary. We caught up with them outside the Washington Monument, where they had hoped to get views of D.C. from 555 feet above ground.

"We were gonna see the Washington Monument," she said, "but it looks like it’s closed."

A sign on the glass doors of the Washington Monument told visitors it was closed until further notice due to the government shutdown. But Andrea and her husband have a plan.
