LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A top Nevada law enforcement official, who instructs a class called “Preventing Police on Police Confrontations,” argued with a Las Vegas police officer and dropped an anti-gay slur during a heated traffic stop, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

A Metro police traffic officer stopped William Scott Jr., 62, near Cheyenne Avenue and Tenaya Way on Aug. 18. The officer cited Scott for holding his phone while driving. Scott was driving a state vehicle at the time, according to the citation.

“I thought you could use your speakerphone,” Scott told the officer in body-camera video the 8 News Now Investigators obtained through a records request.

“OK, you can't have it in your hand, though,” the officer tells Scott while asking for his identification.
