APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - The Appleton Area School District continues to see growth of chronic absenteeism at all grade levels over recent years.
Over 29% of high school students in the district missed at least 18 days of school last year.
Appleton’s common council is expected to vote Wednesday night on whether to reinstate a truancy ordinance, which would allow citations to be issued to students who are repeatedly absent from school.
This is a topic that’s brought forth a lot of discussion between parents, administrators, and city officials over the past few months.
The Appleton Area School District is awaiting the city’s approval to bring back the truancy ordinance that was removed back in 2019.
A 3-2 vote during the city’s safety and licensing committee meeting last week sent this or
