Dane Huddleston has made the leap to the top level of college golf.
The junior from Woodland helped Illinois win the Windon Memorial Classic Tuesday near Chicago. The No. 12-ranked Illini finished 36-under par for the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Huddleston shot 5-under par to finish tied for 14th. He caught fire in the final round, shooting a bogey-free 4-under 68 to finish the tournament as Illinois’ fourth-best golfer.
Huddleston was his team’s third-best golfer at the season-opening Fighting Illini Invitational on Sept. 19-21. He finished 1-over as Illinois was fourth in a tournament that included 10 teams ranked in the top 25.
