DELTA, Colo. (KREX) — On Monday, the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests announced the start of the Taylor Canyon Hazard Tree and Fuels Reduction Project at the Gunnison Ranger District. The project is anticipated to bring traffic delays and limited closures on National Forest Service Road (NFSR) 742.
Approximately 188 acres of forest undergrowth and dead or diseased trees will be removed along NFSR 742. The treatment, starting near the North Bank Campground and extending three miles up the canyon, may extend out 200 feet on either side of NFSR 742 in certain areas.
The work is expected to continue throughout the fall as long as conditions, such as weather, allow.
