Jurors begin deliberating the fate of a man accused of killing a 21-year-old man during a robbery over a gold necklace in North Miami Beach.

The incident happened in May 2023 and was captured on surveillance video. Prosecutors said Marcus Ealy targeted Malcolm Johnson Jr. for his gold medallion and, after it was stolen, fired the shots that killed him.

“It wasn’t enough for Marcus to take his chain, his medallion. He had to take his last chance,” prosecutor Gabriela Gonzalez told jurors during closing arguments on Wednesday. “So he finished him off by shooting him in the head—an unsurvivable wound.”

Police said Johnson collapsed as the shooters fled. The video quickly spread on social media, and investigators said Ealy’s own brother identified him in the footage.
