SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Bryant University could serve as a practice site for teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Rhode Island officials said FIFA included Bryant in its base camp brochure, which features a list of locations where teams can train.
Gillette Stadium in Foxboro is set to host seven World Cup matches next summer. It's one of 16 venues in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In June, Rhode Island created Ocean State 2026, a nonprofit that will be working to make sure the state takes advantage of all the economic opportunities the World Cup will bring to the area.
State and university officials plan to release more information about Bryant's possible involvement at a news conference on Friday.
