Senate Republicans voted Wednesday to block a Senate Democratic proposal to fund the federal government through Oct. 31, to permanently extend enhanced health insurance premium subsidies that are due to expire in December, and to restore nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid funding cuts.
Republicans defeated a procedural motion to advance the legislation after voting against the bill itself Tuesday.
The measure failed by a vote of 47-53.
The Senate is also set to hold a procedural vote Wednesday on the GOP House-passed "clean" funding bill. That legislation also failed Tuesday.
The result of the vote was hardly in doubt as Senate Republicans have consistently criticized the bill as a “laundry list” of liberal priorities that would add $1.5 trillion to the deficit.
