Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated on the 2nd of October every year, marks the birthday of the Father of the Nation which makes it a momentous and patriotic occasion for all Indians. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or as he’s famously known as: Mahatma Gandhi was born on Oct 2, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat .
The youngest of 4 children born to Karamchand Gandhi and Putlibai, Mahatma Gandhi, affectionately referred to as ‘Bapu’ (Father) was a key figure in India’s fight for Independence. His early life was spent studying law and after achieving his goal of becoming a barrister, he set up shop in apartheid South Africa where he spent 21 years advocating for the Indians living there and fighting for their civil rights. He did so by employing non-violent tactics or Satyagraha for the first time.
