MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Local health officials say during this time of the year cases of seasonal illnesses rise. St. Francis Primary Care Doctor, Dr. Tracie Bellanger says this time of year often brings increases in the flu, COVID-19, and the common cold.

Symptoms can vary, ranging from sore throats, coughs to headaches and body aches. According to the CDC, as of September 2025, COVID related emergency department visits in Ouachita Parish have decreased, while flu related visits are on the rise.

Emergency Department visits often reflect the most severe cases requiring hospital care compared to those managed at home.
