They say everything happens for a reason, and it's a mantra that Sarah Skinner well and truly believes now.

The 25-year-old has been named as the Tasmania Football Club's first VFLW signing.

Skinner, who captained the state's senior talent academy side this year, was lost for words when she received the call from Devils' head of list management Todd Patterson on Wednesday.

"Super excited to be part of the first-ever VFLW team for Tasmania," Skinner said.

"My experience and dedication has led me here, and you always want to represent your home state. And doing it around your family and friends is really special.

"Us girls who have had to go over to the mainland to play in these high-level leagues know how important it is for the next generation.
