The Yankees needed a hero on Wednesday night to keep their season alive.
Austin Wells played the part.
The Yankees’ backstop delivered a go-ahead single in the bottom of the eighth inning to drive in Jazz Chisholm Jr. from first base to give the Bombers a 4-3 win over the Red Sox in Game 2.
On a full count with two outs, Wells dunked a hit down the right field line that proved just far enough to score a sliding Chisholm — who had a running start.
