Portland city councilors voted unanimously Wednesday to pay $150,000 to settle a civil lawsuit brought by two women who said officers rammed their car after mistaking it for one driven by a suspected reckless driver.
Colleen McDonald and Hilary Rossio said two Portland police cars struck their Ford Fusion and officers yelled expletives as they drew their guns and ordered the women to raise their hands, according to a federal lawsuit filed in July. The traffic stop took place Aug. 29, 2023.
Eleven councilors voted to approve the settlement. Councilor Olivia Clark was absent.
An attorney representing the women, Michael Cox, said he thought the settlement was a “fair resolution.” The Portland Police Bureau referred questions to City Attorney Robert Taylor, who said his office believes th
