A 57-year-old man was arrested Sept. 28 after he was found floating on the Willamette River in a makeshift raft comprising a box spring, a wood pallet and several pieces of Styrofoam secured with chicken wire.
According to the Eugene Police Department, officers responded to assist City Park Ambassadors working to clean up a camp along the Willamette River near Eugene City Hall about 8 a.m.
Upon arriving, officers spotted the man in the makeshift raft, which was anchored several feet off the bank with a rope and plastic bags filled with rocks.
Police officials said the man appeared to have slept overnight on the river.
"He had been contacted the day before camping by the river and warned to clean up his camp and leave," Melinda McLaughlin, spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department
