INDIANAPOLIS — Elanco Animal Health opened its new global headquarters Wednesday on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

The company bought the former GM Stamping Plant as part of its $200 million plan to move closer to downtown. On Monday, Aug. 25, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced the state had sold the plant to Elanco for $27 million.

Elanco, a former subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company , specializes in veterinary medicine. In 2020, the company announced its plan to build a new headquarters at the GM site, with help from the state and the city of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said Elanco's move is a big step toward expanding the footprint of downtown Indianapolis.
