BUFFALO, N.Y. — For many of the men who wore visiting white here Wednesday night, this preseason game was a final audition for the Penguins’ opening roster.
From teenage prospects Harrison Brunicke and Ben Kindel to veterans like Danton Heinen and Robbie Fabbri who are fighting to stay in the NHL, nearly every single one of them had something at stake against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center.
Pittsburgh coach Dan Muse wouldn’t go as far to say that this game, a 5-3 win for the Penguins, meant more than the five that preceded it. But yeah, it was a big one.
