New Delhi : A cough syrup manufactured by a local pharmaceutical company for the Rajasthan government, has led to the death of 2 children in the state and left 10 others sick. The cases were all reported in the past 2 weeks, said officials. In a bizarre case, a doctor who took the syrup in an attempt to prove that it was safe, was knocked unconscious in his car, just a few hours later.

5-year-old died hours after taking the medicine

The side effects of the medicine came to light on Monday, when a 5-year-old child died just hours after consuming the cough syrup. The syrup reportedly contains the compound dextromethorphan hydrobromide and is manufactured by a company called Kayson Pharma.

The deceased was identified as 5-year-old Nitish. He was a resident of Sikar district in Rajasthan.
