George the barred owl is on the path to recovery, thanks in large part to Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Willow Bloomquist.

According to a social media release by the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre , George (named by the fire department) was admitted to the centre on Sept. 8.

The owl was rescued by Bloomquist after an unexpected collision with the side-view mirror of her vehicle. The incident occurred when the owl flew up suddenly from the roadside ditch, making impact with the moving vehicle.

George was immediately brought in for examination, stated the release.
