On Thursday, former Michigan defenseman and captain Jacob Truscott took the ice at Little Caesars Arena in a Detroit Red Wings uniform for the first time, six months after his last game with the Wolverines. Donning his jersey and cheering him on were 15 of his former teammates, as well as Michigan coach Brandon Naurato and assistant coach Matt Deschamps.
By being there for him on his big night, Truscott’s former teammates and coaches repaid the leadership and consistent presence that had characterized his time with the Wolverines. But now that Truscott and alternate captain Ethan Edwards, his fellow defenseman, have graduated, those roles have been left vacant.
