PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona members of Congress are taking different approaches when it comes to getting paid during the government shutdown.
As millions of federal workers are furloughed, members of Congress can still get a paycheck. But not everyone is doing so.
Rep. Juan Ciscomani, a Republican who represents southeastern Arizona, signed a letter on Wednesday requesting that his pay be withheld until the government reopens.
However, Sen. Ruben Gallego, Arizona’s Democratic junior senator, told NBC News that he can’t afford a paycheck, saying he has three kids and too many bills. “So it’s not feasible, not gonna happen,” he said.
Ciscomani responded by saying Gallego should be “ashamed of himself” and that he is only thinking of himself.
