Bhubaneswar: A depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression late Wednesday night, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The system moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 10 km/h over the past six hours and was centered at 11.30 pm on October 1 over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, near latitude 16.8°N and longitude 86.0°E.

According to the IMD, the deep depression was located approximately 300 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 300 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 330 km south of Puri (Odisha), and 400 km south of Paradip (Odisha).

The system is very likely to continue moving in a north-northwestward direction and is expected to cross the Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts
