Hanoi: The death toll from Typhoon Bualoi in Vietnam has climbed to 36, with 21 people reported missing and 147 injured, authorities confirmed on Thursday. The typhoon struck northern central Vietnam on Monday, unleashing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and high sea waves that caused widespread flooding and structural damage.
The storm has severely affected homes, agriculture, and infrastructure. Over 210,000 houses were damaged or submerged, and more than 51,000 hectares of rice and other crops were destroyed. Roads, schools, and government offices have suffered significant damage, while power outages have impacted tens of thousands of households.
The estimated economic loss from the typhoon has risen to 11.5 trillion dong, equivalent to approximately $436 million. The Vietnamese govern
