Forget those namby-pamby, asphalt-dependent rides. This time, we’re checking out an off-road icon.

Hop way up into this Toyota 4Runner, which is sitting extra high in the special Trailhunter trim.

Its awesomeness may be too much for some, with my wife deriding it as a “man-mobile.” As a man, I just happen to like it.

Toyota calls it an “overland rig straight from the factory.”

Looking at it, it’s hard not to notice the “high mount air intake” that runs along the side of the windshield up to the roof — for all those streams you have to ford on your way to work.

The exterior is boxy, finished in what’s called “Everest,” which is a sort of jade green, and complemented by bronze wheels and the name “TOYOTA” in all caps across the front grille.
