A 79- year-old woman was killed after being struck by a car outside the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, according to Shelby Police.
The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 1.
Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser said the woman was crossing Marion Street at the main entrance of the fairground when she was struck. He said she was taken to Atrium-Health Cleveland where she died from her injuries.
He said her name has not yet been released, pending notification of the family.
Fraser said the speed of the car is not known at this time and no charges have been filed as of Oct. 1.
As of 4:30 p.m., North Carolina Highway Patrol still had Marion Street blocked off outside the fairgrounds. A trooper said the main entrance was closed, but the fair was still open.
