PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Rhode Island students posted modest gains on this year’s standardized tests, though only about one in three are meeting proficiency standards in math and English language arts.
The R.I. Department of Education released the results from the annual Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System, or RICAS, on Thursday.
The results showed 33.7% of third through eighth grade public school students were proficient in English language arts, representing a 2.9 percentage point increase from 2024.
For math, only 31.4% of students were proficient, meaning they either met or exceeded expectations, representing a 1.3 percentage point increase compared to last year.
