New Jersey Transit bus turns into fireball on New Jersey Turnpike in Secaucus

SECAUCUS, New Jersey (WABC) -- Crews battled a blazing bus fire on the New Jersey Turnpike on Thursday morning.

The fire broke out on the New Jersey Transit bus on the northbound eastern spur of the turnpike in Secaucus, before the approach to exit 15X, at around 6:12 a.m.

The bus operating on the 113 line, which departed Plainfield at 5:06 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York at 6:13 a.m., experienced a tire blowout, resulting in a fire.

The bus packed with 49 passengers and an operator, but was safely evacuated.

The customers were accommodated by a following bus.

PATH and NJ TRANSIT rail are cross-honoring tickets due to the resulting traffic delays on the Turnpike.
