JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — A chase involving the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and an aggravated assault suspect led to a fatal crash in Johnson County on Wednesday evening.

According to a news release from IMPD, a homicide detective was near the intersection of E 21st Street and N Emerson Ave. just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday when they reportedly saw a "known aggravated assault suspect" drive by in a truck.

After requesting assistance, fully marked police vehicles attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the truck, which eventually developed into a "lengthy vehicle pursuit."

The release said that while the chase continued on I-65 northbound, IMPD officers attempted a precision immobilization technique, or PIT, on the truck. Officials said the suspect was able to maneuver out of
