A woman was found dead in a Lewisville hotel room after a man led police on a standoff Thursday morning.

The standoff happened at a Budget Suites hotel in the 2100 block of S. SH 121 Business. A Lewisville Police Department spokesperson said the call came in around 3 a.m. for a welfare check. The man was threatening to kill himself and people around him.

When officers arrived, the man was outside the room and shot at officers. Officers took cover and the man then went back in the room, LPD said.

SWAT was called and when the armored vehicle arrived at the scene, the man went back outside and fired shots at officers and the vehicle. Police returned fire and the man went back into the room again.

LPD said that by 8 a.m., officers were able to get the man to surrender without incident. A w
