Residents of Mlodza in Lilongwe have staged protests against the election of Ulemu Msungama as their Member of Parliament, citing alleged irregularities in the just-ended polls.

The disgruntled constituents said they are preparing to take their complaints to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), demanding a recount of the votes in the constituency.

This development comes just days after a similar protest took place in Blantyre’s Chichiri-Misesa Constituency, where residents expressed dissatisfaction with the election of Themba Mkandawire of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The Blantyre demonstrations, held at the City Council offices, were led by Illy Majawa Mombera of the United Democratic Front (UDF), who contested in the election. Mombera and his supporters accused Mkandawire
