VALPARAISO — A second trial has been postponed for a 46-year-old Illinois man charged with driving to Indiana two and a half years ago to have sex with an underage Portage-area boy he met online.

Jason Hammer, of Darien, was to go to trial Nov. 10 after a delay from July 28, but Porter Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Clymer granted a request Wednesday to again reset the trial and scheduled a new date of Feb. 9.

The case came to light on March 31, 2023 when the boy's father reported to police he had caught his son sneaking back into the house in the middle of the night.

The boy reportedly told police he met Hammer on a mobile dating application and switched to Snapchat in order to swap photos.
