A man was arrested after officers had to use a Taser on him at a church in Waterbury where he was involved in a bizarre incident in which he was allegedly seen striking a statue.
Officers responded to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at 74 West Main St. on Wednesday at 8:11 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a weapon, according to the Waterbury Police Department .
When officers arrived they allegedly found 23-year-old Kyran Atkinson of Wolcott striking a statue, police said. He allegedly did not comply with directives from police and was taken into custody after police used a taser on him.
Police did not give any indication that Atkinson had a weapon. He was charged with two counts of second-degree breach of peace and a single count each of first-degree c
