DALLAS — Texas Instruments, which employs over 34,000 people, will lay off 163 of its North Texas employees, according to a notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission.

The Dallas-based company will lay off the workers Dec. 12, according to the notice.

In 2020, Texas Instruments announced it would close two North Texas fabrication plants in Sherman and Dallas, the Dallas Business Journal reported. When the company shuts down its fabrication plant off North Central Expressway, it will lay off 163 workers in December and an additional 20 in April, according to the state filing.

The company has also recently made major investments in North Texas, dedicating about $40 billion of the investment to its new semiconductor plant in Sherman , $6 billion to its Richardson campus. The
