Though it may appear confusing to some motorists, provincial transportation officials and police say it's normal to see alternating speed limits posted within a single highway construction zone.
"White (speed) signs indicate legal speed limits, and orange signs indicate advisory speeds for areas where road work is underway, or if there are temporary hazards," a Ministry of Transportation spokeswoman said this week.
Some motorists driving through an ongoing four-lane upgrade on Highway 11-17 near Hurkett said they wondered which speed signs to observe when white signs for 90 km/h and orange ones indicating 70 km/h appeared interspersed through the same construction zone.
