The UK government has announced the biggest overhaul to marriage laws since the 19th century in a move that is expected to boost the economy by £535 million.

Couples getting married will have more wedding venues to choose from under the series of reforms announced by the Ministry of Justice on Thursday.

The move could also open up 12,000 jobs in the sector and add over £100 million to the public purse, according to the government.

Under the changes, marrying couples will be able to tie the knot in a wider range of locations provided venues meet strict standards of being appropriate and dignified.
