A hospital in Bergen County was placed on lockdown Wednesday after a man entered an intake area with a handgun, prompting police to call in a SWAT team.

Teaneck police were called to Holy Name Medical Center about 2:30 p.m. after a report of a man with a firearm, according to township Police Chief Andrew R. McGurr.

McGurr said a 911 caller reported a man “had removed a handgun from his person and slammed it on a table.”

The hospital was placed on divert status and a shelter-in-place order was implemented.

“Additionally, notification was made requesting activation of the Bergen County Regional SWAT team,” McGurr said in a statement.

Arriving officers found a 56-year-old man from Dumont on the second floor and confiscated his weapon without incident.
