PHOENIX — A man sustained serious injuries after a shooting incident with officers in Phoenix, officials said.

The incident occurred Thursday morning near 7th Street and Sunland Avenue. Police said no officers were injured during the incident. The injured man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police officials said officers were dispatched to a local residence for reports of an individual allegedly making suicidal statements. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the person who called 911 for help.

During the encounter, police officials said a man exited the house with a knife and ran toward an officer. Two officers reportedly used less-lethal force and two other officers deployed lethal force.

The man sustained at least one gunshot wound.
