The Detroit Tigers (87-75) and Cleveland Guardians (88-74) played six times in the last two weeks of the season. The Tigers lost five of those games. It's only fitting that Detroit's season hinges on a make-or-break contest against Cleveland in the AL Wild Card round.

Tarik Skubal pitched into the eighth inning Tuesday, striking out 14 batters en route to a 2-1 win. Wednesday's affair was a different story. The Tigers left 15 runners on base in a 6-1 loss, a franchise record and one run away from tying the record for a 9-inning postseason game set by the 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers against the Cardinals in the NLDS.

Jack Flaherty is expected to face Slade Cecconi in the final game of this best-of-3 series.
